[TamilNet, Sunday, 14 September 2008, 07:45 GMT]
Unidentified gunmen alleged to be Tamil paramilitary persons following a building contrator on motor cycle shot and killed him Saturday around 5:30 p.m at Charava'nai Kaa'li Koayiladi in Veala’nai, in the islets of Jaffna, sources in Oorkaavattu’rai (Kayts) said. The victim’s two brothers who had been combatants in militant groups had died in the past, the sources added.

The victim was identified as Nallaiah Kumuthathas, 30, a father of one child and a resident of Ward 6, Vela'nai.

Kumuthathas who had been to Jaffna town earlier in the day to meet his firends had again left home on a personal errand on his motorcylce when the killers shot and killed him.

Oorkaavattu’rai police visited the site of the killing and conducted inquiries.

Oorkaavattu’rai magistrate Ms. Joy Mahatheva held the inquest into the death at the site Sunday morning and directed the police to hand over the body to Jaffna Teaching Hospital (JTH) mortuary for post mortem examination to be held.

Police handed over the body to JTH mortuary Sunday around 11:00 a.m.
